WAHM.com Undercover Later that day, I received a phone call from A Real Person! She sounded very nice and told me that my package would arrive within two to three days. She also set up a convenient time for my manager to call me, after I had a few days to look over the information. My next package arrived two days later, priority mail as promised. It contained a workbook, an audio cassette and a video cassette. I didn't open the video, because I wanted to make sure everything was in the same condition in which I received it, in case I wanted to return it all. The workbook gave some general exercises, "How successful do you want to be?" type of thing and more vague information about this mail order business, and the "supplier company." Finally, there was a clue about the types of products my mail order business would sell: I could become part of the "Health and Nutrition" industry.
Later that week, I noticed a charge on my account from a large, well-known MLM (Multi-level marketing) company. It took awhile, but I finally put two and two together and realized that this was my charge for my "mail order business" package. The next week, my manager called as promised. She asked if I had received the information and started asking me questions, "to determine if I could be successful with this business." I really didn't want to waste her time, and asked her, "Is this for "ABC Company*?" She said, "Yes, it is." I then told her that I wasn't interested in joining ABC Company and asked how I could get my money back. I have returned my information package, stay tuned to see if my money is refunded. Conclusions But don't fall for these types of "mail order" ads. They are really not advertising a new kind of mail order business as you are led to believe. It is a way to try to recruit you into their MLM. They don't tell you what the products are or what company who are signing up for until you have sent them your money. I had to pay over $40 before I was able to speak to a real person. They were vague about the products I would be selling, and the information they sent wasn't worth anywhere near the amount they charged for it. If you want to join one of the large MLM companies, there are plenty of people who will be happy to recruit you, they will be up front and tell you exactly what you are getting into.
Another way this is being sold is as a "decision package" which is basically true. At least with this information, you know what you're getting. It is possible to join an MLM company without going through this decision process however. That's up to you, just be aware that this is a method used by some MLM recruiters. *not the real name of this company
