What is your favorite "special activity" you do with your kids? Mud pies? Picnics in the park?
We have a special weekly tradition that the kids and I just love. Every Friday or Saturday night we all help to make a home made pizza for dinner. Then we rent a video that the kids can watch. After dinner we all watch the movie together with a big bowl of popcorn and the kids get a soda. Since the kids aren't allowed to watch a lot of tv or drink soda, this is a big deal for them. And I love having two hours to sit and cuddle with my girls!
We have an abundance of paint at our house, so anything we can paint - we will. During the holidays, you will find my teenagers making gifts for their friends and family at my kitchen table. I hope this doesn't disappear with the appearance of a computer in our home. We painted bottles this year and filled with oil/wax for candles that were beautiful. Creating things with your kids has hidden pleasures: conversation flows while your hands are busy. I've had the best talks and insights with my kids while we're making stuff!
It would have to be making ‘tents’. You know with blankets and anything else around the living room couch. I get to see my 4 year old’s imagination at work. Sometimes he really surprises me how much his mind really does work! He is such a *deep* thinker! Now that I am very pregnant I can’t get into the tents anymore, but I sure have fun watching.
Me and my kids LOVE to grab a hot and buttery bowl of fresh popped popcorn and close all the lights, curl up on the sofa with warm comforters and watch a good old fashioned family movie!!!!
My daughter, Hannah, is seven. We love to make cards together. We enjoy trips to the fabric store to pick out fun fabrics, ribbons, and laces. Our next stop is the office supply store for construction paper, (now in marble), stickers, glitter glue, and envelopes. Once at home we pile everything out and start making the cards. With a hole puncher we add gorgeous bows and the edges of the fold of the card are intertwined with ribbon. Sometimes we use fun photos and use the fabric as a frame. We send the cards to friends and family.
