Time Management: Does it Really Work
When You Have an Internet Business?

by Alice Seba

We all know the Internet is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have an Internet business, you may also find yourself open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You read all the advice on time management. You're told to set regular work hours, make lists and prioritize. Well, if you're like me with a newborn and a toddler, there are no regular working hours. There's no regular anything and your to-do list is probably so huge, you need
another to-do list to remind you to work on your original to-do list. So, what do you do?

Take another look at the to-do list and the deadlines you've set. Use your to-do list as a guideline, not gospel. Is your to-do list filled with things like...

  • change font-face on all pages
  • do keyword research for product pages
  • write one more article for ezine

...ask yourself, "Who is going to notice if I don't do these things?" The answer is, inevitably,"Me". If you constantly find yourself with a to-do list filled with things that your average visitor or customer wouldn't notice, you have three choices:

  1. Allow yourself to feel pressured by these unattainable goals until you finally explode.
  2. If funds permit, hire someone to help you with the tasks you can never seem to get done. Hire a virtual assistant, a web designer, a search engine expert or whatever you need.
  3. If you don't have the funds to hire anyone, then you'll just have to start letting thingsslide. Scrap them altogether or set them aside until you have time. Yes, I'm recommending procrastination.

It's not healthy to spend all your time at a computer and there's only so much one person can do.

  • Send out your ezine a day or two late. Or send it out with one less article.
  • Is the font on your website really that important?
  • The search engines can wait for those keywords until after you've had a good sleep.

If the only person who will notice is you, why are you putting yourself under such pressure?

Remember what your mom used to say? "It's a beautiful day. Go play outside." Now go do it!
